Open House = Success! (Photos)

On Saturday, March 7, Modjeska Playhouse finally opened its doors to the public to show off our new, permanent home in Lake Forest.

After inviting our friends, family and various VIPs who were instrumental in helping us get our doors open, we were honestly expecting 50, maybe 60, people to show up. But word spread throughout the community and more than 100 guests gathered in our performance space to learn about our upcoming season, meet the co-artistic directors, and find out what they can expect from Modjeska Playhouse.

After a bit of mingling and indulging in some food and wine, our co-artistic directors – Christopher Sullivan, Joseph Alanes and Joshua Stecker – gave a short presentation outlining the playhouse’s upcoming season, our education and community outreach programs and our fundraising efforts, which includes our Adopt-a-Seat program.

Modjeska Playhouse’s first season will include: The 39 Steps (opening April 3, tickets on sale now); Secrets of a Soccer Mom (opening May 15), our first Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) show, American Tall Tales (opening June 19); and finally, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), (opening August 1 at the Lake Forest Sports Park for two weekends and moving to our theatre on August 13).

Some of the VIPs in attendance included: Lake Forest Mayor Scott Voigts, Lake Forest City Councilmembers Dr. Jim Gardner and Dwight Robinson, Mission Viejo City Councilman Greg Raths, former Parks and Recreation Commissioner John Irish and his wife Rosalie, Intellivision Productions President Keith Robinson, Margie Matsil from the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis, and Saddleback Valley Soroptimists leader, Anne Breuer.

It was a wonderful evening and a great start to what we hope will be an amazing adventure. Thanks to all who came out, we hope you had as great a time as we did.
